Way back in 2019 I visited my eye doctor and was told I would need cataract surgery soon. I didn’t see him for several years due to Covid. I saw him again this spring and he said I need it now, so that will be happening soon. When I was in my home environment I didn’t notice it that much but OMG I am noticing it on this trip! I can’t read signs hardly at all. Of course the idea of someone digging around in my eyeballs doesn’t please me, I can certainly see the necessity of it now.
I must say I have been pleased with the Uber and Lyft drivers this trip that have been agreeable about stuffing my walker in the car for me. I always feel vaguely guilty for causing them extra trouble but it is necessary now.
I forgot to mention this card I picked up at Binion’s. I think it is amusing that they want you to describe your ghostly experiences at Hotel Apache. Pictures below.
I spent a good part of the morning trying to decide what to do on my last day. Today was the first day when it was actually warm enough to consider taking a swim. It is 77. But degeneracy wins out…I had a food comp to use at the Steven’s properties and I decided I wanted to try Bacon Nation and hit those Ultra Spin firecracker machines.
I must say I was very impressed the look and the food at Bacon Nation. I was a fan of the D Grill but this place is much nicer. ( And more expensive of course). As a person alone they are always trying to put me at a counter but I don’t find them comfortable so I asked for a table. The menu has lots of unique things on it. I decided on a sausage, bacon and cheese French Toast Box. It was a weird looking thing but it was delicious!!!! I would definitely order it again. It is too much food though. I wish you could order half a box….lol. Their coffee was amazing too. It came in a cup the size of a soup bowl and was very strong. Once you got the cream and sugar in it it was yummy. I would go back for the coffee alone. The bill was $25. My only complaint ( I bet you know what is coming) is the loud music! Ok. I get it. Derek Stevens wants a party atmosphere in the casino. But why do I need loud rock music blasting at me in a coffee shop? And because the music is so deafening everyone has to talk louder which raises the noise level another few decibels. Just crazy. I did a Soundprint inside Bacon Nation of 82.
After eating I made a beeline back to those firecracker machines that were nice to me yesterday. I was happily playing away when I heard familiar boisterous voices. It was those same two women from the night before; one sat next to me and one behind me. It was at this point that I remembered that I had foam earplugs in my purse! I put them in and problem solved. One of their husbands came to claim them, thank goodness. I kept the earplugs in the rest of my time in the D and on Fremont. It is amazing how much more pleasant it is when half of the racket is blocked. I don’t think I will ever go down Fremont again without them. I played from 12 to 3 pm. I put in $200 and cashed out even. That should ensure I still get some offers from the Steven’s properties.
I returned to the Plaza for a rest with the intention of going out again later but I think I have decided to just stay here. My brain is already creating a grocery list and wondering what to make for dinner on Tuesday. I have transitioned into Going Home mode.
It was truly a marvellous trip. My favourite part was watching Mike and Terin run around having so much fun. All three of my hotels worked out well. They all had excellent beds which is important to me. People diss the Excalibur but I would stay there again, no problem. Obviously getting the suite at Mirage was a thrill. And the Plaza feels like home to me. These Luxe rooms are so comfortable.
So as always, thanks for reading. We never know what tomorrow holds so enjoy your trips while you can.
