The PLAZA trip - Day 12 April 2 The Final Day

Way back in 2019 I visited my eye doctor and was told I would need cataract surgery soon.  I didn’t see him for several years due to Covid.  I saw him again this spring and he said I need it now, so that will be happening soon.  When I was in my home environment I didn’t notice it that much but OMG I am noticing it on this trip!  I can’t read signs hardly at all.  Of course the idea of someone digging around in my eyeballs doesn’t please me, I can certainly see the necessity of it now.

I must say I have been pleased with the Uber and Lyft drivers this trip that have been agreeable about stuffing my walker in the car for me.  I always feel vaguely guilty for causing them extra trouble but it is necessary now.

I forgot to mention this card I picked up at Binion’s. I think it is amusing that they want you to describe your ghostly experiences at Hotel Apache. Pictures below.

I spent a good part of the morning trying to decide what to do on my last day.  Today was the first day when it was actually warm enough to consider taking a swim.  It is 77. But degeneracy wins out…I had a food comp to use at the Steven’s properties and I decided I wanted to try Bacon Nation and hit those Ultra Spin firecracker machines.

I must say I was very impressed the look and the food at Bacon Nation.  I was a fan of the D Grill but this place is much nicer.  ( And more expensive of course). As a person alone they are always trying to put me at a counter but I don’t find them comfortable so I asked for a table. The menu has lots of unique things on it. I decided on a sausage, bacon and cheese French Toast Box.  It was a weird looking thing but it was delicious!!!!  I would definitely order it again.  It is too much food though.  I wish you could order half a box….lol.  Their coffee was amazing too.  It came in a cup the size of a soup bowl and was very strong. Once you got the cream and sugar in it it was yummy.  I would go back for the coffee alone.   The bill was $25.  My only complaint ( I bet you know what is coming) is the loud music!  Ok. I get it. Derek Stevens wants a party atmosphere in the casino.  But why do I need loud rock music blasting at me in a coffee shop?  And because the music is so deafening everyone has to talk louder which raises the noise level another few decibels.  Just crazy.  I did a Soundprint inside Bacon Nation of 82.

After eating I made a beeline back to those firecracker machines that were nice to me yesterday. I was happily playing away when I heard familiar boisterous voices. It was those same two women from the night before; one sat next to me and one behind me.  It was at this point that I remembered that I had foam earplugs in my purse! I put  them in and problem solved.  One of their husbands came to claim them, thank goodness.  I kept the earplugs in the rest of my time in the D and on Fremont. It is amazing how much more pleasant it is when half of the racket is blocked.  I don’t think I will ever go down Fremont again without them.  I played from 12 to 3 pm.  I put in $200 and cashed out even.  That should ensure I still get some offers from the Steven’s properties.

I returned to the Plaza for a rest with the intention of going out again later but I think I have decided to just stay here. My brain is already creating a grocery list and wondering what to make for dinner on Tuesday. I have transitioned into Going Home mode.

It was truly a marvellous trip. My favourite part was watching Mike and Terin run around having so much fun. All three of my hotels worked out well.  They all had excellent beds which is important to me.  People diss the Excalibur but I would stay there again, no problem. Obviously getting the suite at Mirage was a thrill. And the Plaza feels like home to me.  These Luxe rooms are so comfortable.

So as always, thanks for reading. We never know what tomorrow holds so enjoy your trips while you can.

The PLAZA Trip - Day 11- Saturday April 1, 2023

Today is going to sound startlingly similar to yesterday.  I am nothing if not a creature of habit. I started the day by heading down to Binion’s for another free breakfast.  A man on Twitter told me to go ahead and eat the French Toast.  I was going to but Binion’s doesn’t have French Toast so I ordered some pancakes and bacon.  Delicious as usual.

After eating I went back to my quiet corner by the deli. I am getting quite possessive of that area.  How dare anyone intrude on my happy space? I played the same machine and it was cooperative again but wouldn’t cough up the deuces. I figure it OWES me the deuces now.  It did give me some good hands to keep me alive.

I left at noon to go down to the D to do my April free play.

There is some extremely loud man hollering in front of the Golden Nugget every day now.  I am assuming it is meant to be entertaining but I just find it loud and obnoxious.

I returned to the same firecracker machine at the D and put in my $30 free play and $100 of my own.  I was having great luck and I got the machine up to $500!  I probably would have stayed and played it all away but some annoying women sat on either side of me.  I couldn’t take the hollering and the button whacking so I cashed out with $300.  Likely it was a good thing they came along. The Soundprint was 81 inside the D. It was 94 right outside their doors.

Next I wandered through the Fremont just to check out the changes. It has a dual personality now.  Half of it I don’t recognize and half is very familiar.

I decided to take at look at the Four Queens.  It seems like it is frozen in time compared the other casinos downtown.  There wasn’t anything I wanted to play so I was making my way out when I heard someone calling my name. It was our lovely friends from Scotland, Pat and her hubby.  Poor Pat got sick and sent me a message saying we wouldn’t be able to meet up but we just ran into each other accidentally.  She can’t talk very well so her husband and I chatted for awhile. Hopefully Pat improves enough to enjoy the rest of their trip.

I moved over to Circa to play my $75 free play.  I can’t seem to hit much of anything there.  I loaded my free play into the Buffalo Chief Platinum.  I recommend NEVER playing this.  It looks like it has the possibility for big hits but the payouts are terrible.  You get excited when you see a 30 times multiplier but then it winds up giving you 6 bucks.  Very disappointing.  I tried a hundred in Wicked Wheel Fire and Ice but it wasn’t hitting today.

I am including a picture of the plaque on Circa’s wall that mentions Vegas Bright.  Michael Movestro told me that other than himself, I wrote the most articles for Vegas Bright.  92 of them.  I didn’t even realize that but I am proud to have been a part of it.

I left Circa and crossed the street to Golden Gate to play my $20 in free play.  I played for a short time on the firecracker machine but then came back to the room for a rest.

After laying down for two hours I went back down to the Plaza casino and played video poker until nine.  For the people upset with me eating Big Macs you will be happy to know that I decided to buy a Subway sub for my room dinner.

Tomorrow is my last day!  Sob!

You know what I have not done this trip?  Go to ROSS!  But as my daughter points out, “Why do you keep buying new dresses when you don’t go anywhere?”  She has a point.  Maybe I will skip it this time.

Christmas Alone

I imagine when you look at this title you might think this is going to be a sad and depressing story. On the contrary, I want to express how...
